Psalms 147

Douay-Rheims 1899

About this edition

Ps 146:1-11; 147:1-9 in this version

1Praise ye the Lord, because psalm is good: to our God be joyful and comely praise.

2The Lord buildeth up Jerusalem: he will gather together the dispersed of Israel.

3Who healeth the broken of heart, and bindeth up their bruises.

4Who telleth the number of the stars: and calleth them all by their names.

5Great is our Lord, and great is his power: and of his wisdom there is no number.

6The Lord lifteth up the meek, and bringeth the wicked down even to the ground.

7Sing ye to the Lord with praise: sing to our God upon the harp.

8Who covereth the heaven with clouds, and prepareth rain for the earth. Who maketh grass to grow on the mountains, and herbs for the service of men.

9Who giveth to beasts their food: and to the young ravens that call upon him.

10He shall not delight in the strength of the horse: nor take pleasure in the legs of a man.

11The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him: and in them that hope in his mercy.

12Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem: praise thy God, O Sion.

13Because he hath strengthened the bolts of thy gates, he hath blessed thy children within thee.

14Who hath placed peace in thy borders: and filleth thee with the fat of corn.

15Who sendeth forth his speech to the earth: his word runneth swiftly.

16Who giveth snow like wool: scattereth mists like ashes.

17He sendeth his crystal like morsels: who shall stand before the face of his cold?

18He shall send out his word, and shall melt them: his wind shall blow, and the waters shall run.

19Who declareth his word to Jacob: his justices and his judgments to Israel.

20He hath not done in like manner to every nation: and his judgments he hath not made manifest to them. Alleluia.

About this edition

Ps 146:1-11; 147:1-9 in this version

1Alleluja. [Laudate Dominum, quoniam bonus est psalmus; Deo nostro sit jucunda, decoraque laudatio.

2Ædificans Jerusalem Dominus, dispersiones Israëlis congregabit:

3qui sanat contritos corde, et alligat contritiones eorum;

7Præcinite Domino in confessione; psallite Deo nostro in cithara.

8Qui operit cælum nubibus, et parat terræ pluviam; qui producit in montibus fœnum, et herbam servituti hominum;

9qui dat jumentis escam ipsorum, et pullis corvorum invocantibus eum.

10Non in fortitudine equi voluntatem habebit, nec in tibiis viri beneplacitum erit ei.

11Beneplacitum est Domino super timentes eum, et in eis qui sperant super misericordia ejus.]

12Alleluja. [Lauda, Jerusalem, Dominum; lauda Deum tuum, Sion.

13Quoniam confortavit seras portarum tuarum; benedixit filiis tuis in te.

14Qui posuit fines tuos pacem, et adipe frumenti satiat te.

15Qui emittit eloquium suum terræ: velociter currit sermo ejus.

16Qui dat nivem sicut lanam; nebulam sicut cinerem spargit.

17Mittit crystallum suam sicut buccellas: ante faciem frigoris ejus quis sustinebit?

18Emittet verbum suum, et liquefaciet ea; flabit spiritus ejus, et fluent aquæ.

19Qui annuntiat verbum suum Jacob, justitias et judicia sua Israël.

20Non fecit taliter omni nationi, et judicia sua non manifestavit eis. Alleluja.]

About this edition

Ps 146:1-11; 147:1-9 in this version

1Alleluia. Praise the Lord, because the psalm is good. Delightful and beautiful praise shall be for our God.

2The Lord builds up Jerusalem. He will gather together the dispersed of Israel.

3He heals the contrite of heart, and he binds up their sorrows.

4He numbers the multitude of the stars, and he calls them all by their names.

5Great is our Lord, and great is his virtue. And of his wisdom, there is no number.

6The Lord lifts up the meek, but he brings down the sinner, even to the ground.

7Sing before the Lord with confession. Play psalms to our God on a stringed instrument.

8He covers heaven with clouds, and he prepares rain for the earth. He produces grass on the mountains and herbs for the service of men.

9He gives their food to beasts of burden and to young ravens that call upon him.

10He will not have good will for the strength of the horse, nor will he be well pleased with the legs of a man.

11The Lord is well pleased with those who fear him and with those who hope in his mercy.

12Alleluia. Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem. Praise your God, O Zion.

13For he has reinforced the bars of your gates. He has blessed your sons within you.

14He has stationed peace at your borders, and he has satisfied you with the fat of the grain.

15He sends forth his eloquence to the earth. His word runs swiftly.

16He provides snow like wool. He strews clouds like ashes.

17He sends his ice crystals like morsels. Who can stand firm before the face of his cold?

18He will send forth his word, and it will melt them. His Spirit will breathe out, and the waters will flow.

19He announces his word to Jacob, his justices and his judgments to Israel.

20He has not done so much for every nation, and he has not made his judgments manifest to them. Alleluia.
