1And Abraham married another wife, named Cetura:

2Who bore him Zamran, and Jecsan, and Madan, and Madian, and Jesboc, and Sue.

3Jecsan also begot Saba and Dadan. The children of Dadan were Assurim, and Latusim, and Loomin.

4But of Madian was born Epha, and Opher, and Henoch, and Abida, and Eldaa: all these were the children of Cetura.

5And Abraham gave all his possessions to Isaac.

6And to the children of the concubines he gave gifts, and separated them from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, to the east country.

7And the days of Abraham’s life were a hundred and seventy-five years.

8And decaying he died in a good old age, and having lived a long time, and being full of days: and was gathered to his people.

9And Isaac and Ismael his sons buried him in the double cave, which was situated in the field of Ephron the son of Seor the Hethite, over against Mambre;

10Which he had bought of the children of Heth: there was he buried, and Sara his wife.

11And after his death, God blessed Isaac his son, who dwelt by the well named Of the living and seeing.

12These are the generations of Ismael the son of Abraham, whom Agar the Egyptian, Sara’s servant, bore unto him:

13And these are the names of his children according to their calling and generations. The firstborn of Ismael was Nabajoth, then Cedar, and Adbeel, and Mabsam.

14And Masma, and Duma, and Massa,

15Hadar, and Thema, and Jethur, and Naphis, and Cedma.

16These are the sons of Ismael: and these are their names by their castles and towns, twelve princes of their tribes.

17And the years of Ismael’s life were a hundred and thirty-seven, and decaying he died, and was gathered unto his people.

18And he dwelt from Hevila as far as Sur, which looketh towards Egypt, to them that go towards the Assyrians. He died in the presence of all his brethren.

19These also are the generations of Isaac the son of Abraham: Abraham begot Isaac:

20Who when he was forty years old, took to wife Rebecca the daughter of Bathuel the Syrian of Mesopotamia, sister to Laban.

21And Isaac besought the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and he heard him, and made Rebecca to conceive.

22But the children struggled in her womb: and she said: If it were to be so with me, what need was there to conceive? And she went to consult the Lord.

23And he answering said: Two nations are in thy womb, and two peoples shall be divided out of thy womb, and one people shall overcome the other, and the elder shall serve the younger.

24And when her time was come to be delivered, behold twins were found in her womb.

25He that came forth first was red, and hairy like a skin: and his name was called Esau. Immediately the other coming forth, held his brother’s foot in his hand, and therefore he was called Jacob.

26Isaac was threescore years old when the children were born unto him.

27And when they were grown up, Esau became a skillful hunter, and a husbandman, but Jacob a plain man dwelt in tents.

28Isaac loved Esau, because he ate of his hunting: and Rebecca loved Jacob.

29And Jacob boiled pottage: to whom Esau, coming faint out of the field,

30Said: Give me of this red pottage, for I am exceeding faint. For which reason his name was called Edom.

31And Jacob said to him: Sell me thy first birthright.

32He answered: Lo I die, what will the first birthright avail me?

33Jacob said: Swear therefore to me. Esau swore to him, and sold his first birthright.

34And so taking bread and the pottage of lentils, he ate, and drank, and went his way; making little account of having sold his first birthright.

1Abraham vero aliam duxit uxorem nomine Ceturam:

31Cui dixit Jacob: Vende mihi primogenita tua.

32Ille respondit: En morior, quid mihi proderunt primogenita?

33Ait Jacob: Jura ergo mihi.

1In truth, Abraham took another wife, named Keturah.

2And she bore to him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.

3Likewise, Jokshan conceived Sheba and Dedan. The sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim.

4And truly, from Midian was born Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the sons of Keturah.

5And Abraham gave everything that he possessed to Isaac.

6But to the sons of the concubines he gave generous gifts, and he separated them from his son Isaac, while he still lived, toward the eastern region.

7Now the days of Abraham’s life were one hundred and seventy-five years.

8And declining, he died in a good old age, and at an advanced stage of life, and full of days. And he was gathered to his people.

9And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the double cave, which was situated in the field of Ephron, of the son of Zohar the Hittite, across from the region of Mamre,

10which he had bought from the sons of Heth. There he was buried, with his wife Sarah.

11And after his passing, God blessed his son Isaac, who lived near the well named ‘of the One who lives and who sees.’

12These are the generations of Ishmael, the son of Abraham, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s servant, bore to him.

13And these are the names of his sons according to their language and generations. The firstborn of Ishmael was Nebaioth, then Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,

14likewise Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa,

15Hadad, and Tema, and Jetur, and Naphish, and Kedemah.

16These are the sons of Ishmael. And these are their names throughout their fortresses and towns: the twelve princes of their tribes.

17And the years of the life of Ishmael that passed were one hundred and thirty-seven. And declining, he died and was placed with his people.

18Now he had lived from Havilah as far as Shur, which overlooks Egypt as it approaches the Assyrians. He passed away in the sight of all his brothers.

19Likewise, these are the generations of Isaac, the son of Abraham. Abraham conceived Isaac,

20who, when he was forty years old, took Rebekah, the sister of Laban, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian from Mesopotamia, as a wife.

21And Isaac beseeched the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was barren. And he heard him, and he gave conception to Rebekah.

22But the little ones struggled in her womb. So she said, “If it was to be so with me, what need was there to conceive?” And she went to consult the Lord.

23And responding, he said, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples will be divided out of your womb, and one people will overcome the other people, and the elder will serve the younger.”

24Now the time had arrived to give birth, and behold, twins were discovered in her womb.

25He who departed first was red, and entirely hairy like a pelt; and his name was called Esau. At once the other departed and he held his brother’s foot in his hand; and because of this he was called Jacob.

26Isaac was sixty years old when the little ones were born to him.

27And as adults, Esau became a knowledgeable hunter and a man of agriculture, but Jacob, a simple man, dwelt in tents.

28Isaac was fond of Esau, because he was fed from his hunting; and Rebekah loved Jacob.

29Then Jacob boiled a small meal. Esau, when he had arrived weary from the field,

30said to him, “Give me this red stew, for I am very tired.” For this reason, his name was called Edom.

31Jacob said to him, “Sell me your right of the firstborn.”

32He answered, “Lo, I am dying, what will the right of the firstborn provide for me?”

33Jacob said, “So then, swear to me.” Esau swore to him, and he sold his right of the firstborn.

34And so, taking bread and the food of lentils, he ate, and he drank, and he went away, giving little weight to having sold the right of the firstborn.
