1Or questi sono i figliuoli della provincia, i quali dalla schiavitù, alla quale erano stati condotti in Babilonia da Nabuchodonosor re di Babilonia, se ne tornarono a Gerusalemme, e nella terra di Giuda, ciascheduno alla sua città.

2I quali si posero in viaggio con Zorobabel, con Josuè, Nehemia, Saraia, Rahelaia, Mardochai, Belsan, Mesphar, Beguai, Rehum, e Baana. Ecco il numero degli uomini del popolo d'Israele.

3Figliuoli di Pharos due mila cento settantadue.

58Tutti i Nathinei, e i figliuoli dei servi di Salomone trecento novantadue.

59Questi poi sono quelli, che partiron da Thelmala, e da Thelharsa: Cherub, e Adon, ed Emer: e non poterono indicare la famiglia, e la stirpe de' padri loro, se fossero della casa d'Israele:

60I figliuoli di Dalaia, i figliuoli di Tobia, i figliuoli di Necoda seicento cinquantadue.

61E de' figliuoli di sacerdoti: i figliuoli di Hobia. I figliuoli di Accos, i figliuoli di Berzellai, il quale prese per moglie una delle figlie di Berzellai di Galaad, e ne prese il nome.

62Questi cercarono i registri di lor genealogia, e non li trovarono, e furono esclusi dal sacerdozio.

63E Athersatha disse loro, che non mangiassero delle cose santificate, sino a tanto che venisse un Pontefice illuminato, e perfetto.

64Tutta questa turba, come un solo, quarantadue mila trecento sessanta;

65Senza gli schiavi, e le schiave loro, che erano sette mila trecento trenta sette: e tra questi dugento cantatori, e cantatrici.

66Avean seco settecento trentasei cavalli, e dugento quarantacinque muli,

67Quattrocento trentacinque cammelli, sei mila settecento venti asini.

68E alcuni dei principi tra i padri entrati nel tempio del Signore, che è in Gerusalemme, fecero spontaneamente delle offerte alla casa del Signore per rifabbricarla nel suo sito.

69E diedero (ciascuno) a proporzione delle loro forze per le spese della fabbrica, soldi d'oro sessantun mila, mine cinque mila d'argento, e cento vesti sacerdotali.

70I sacerdoti adunque, e i Leviti, e quelli del popolo, e i cantori, e i portinaj, e i Nathinei andarono ad abitare nelle loro città, e di tutto quanto Israele tornò ciascuno alla sua città.

63Et dixit Athersatha eis ut non comederent de Sancto sanctorum, donec surgeret sacerdos doctus atque perfectus.

64Omnis multitudo quasi unus, quadraginta duo millia trecenti sexaginta:

65exceptis servis eorum, et ancillis, qui erant septem millia trecenti triginta septem: et in ipsis cantores atque cantatrices ducenti.

66Equi eorum septingenti triginta sex, muli eorum, ducenti quadraginta quinque,

67cameli eorum, quadringenti triginta quinque, asini eorum, sex millia septingenti viginti.

68Et de principibus patrum, cum ingrederentur templum Domini, quod est in Jerusalem, sponte obtulerunt in domum Dei ad exstruendam eam in loco suo.

69Secundum vires suas dederunt impensas operis, auri solidos sexaginta millia et mille, argenti mnas quinque millia, et vestes sacerdotales centum.

70Habitaverunt ergo sacerdotes, et Levitæ, et de populo, et cantores, et janitores, et Nathinæi, in urbibus suis, universusque Israël in civitatibus suis.

59And these are they that came up from Thelmela, Thelharsa, Cherub, and Adon, and Emer. And they could not shew the house of their fathers and their seed, whether they were of Israel.

63And Athersatha said to them, that they should not eat of the holy of holies, till there arose a priest learned and perfect.

64All the multitudes as one man, were forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty:

65Besides their menservants, and womenservants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven: and among them singing men, and singing women two hundred.

66Their horses seven hundred thirty-six, their mules two hundred forty-five,

67Their camels four hundred thirty-five, their asses six thousand seven hundred and twenty.

68And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the temple of the Lord, which is in Jerusalem, offered freely to the house of the Lord to build it in its place.

69According to their ability, they gave towards the expenses of the work, sixty-one thousand solids of gold, five thousand pounds of silver, and a hundred garments for the priests.

70So the priests and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singing men, and the porters, and the Nathinites dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.
