1Filhos (ou descendentes) de Judá foram: Farés, Hesron, Carmi, Hur e Sobal.

2Raias, filho de Sobal, gerou Jaat, de quem nasceram Aumal e Laad. Estas são as famílias dos Saratitas.

3Estes são os descendentes do pai de Etão: Jezrael, .Joseina e Jedebos, que tiveram uma irmã chamada Asalelfuni.

4Fanuel foi pai de Gedor, e Ezer pai de Hosa. Estes são os filhos de Hur, primogênito de Efrata, pai de Belém,

5Assur, pai de Tecua, teve duas mulheres: Halaa e Naara.

6De Naara teve Oozão, Hefer, Temamos e Aastari; estes são os filhos de Naara.

7Os filhos de Halaa foram: Seret, Isaar e Etnan.

8Cós gerou Anob, Soboba e a família de Aareel, filho de Arum

9Jabes foi mais ilustre do que seus irmãos, e sua mãe pôs-lhe o nome de Jabes, dizendo: Porque o dei à luz com dor.

10Jabes invocou o Deus de Israel, dizendo: Oh! Se tu me cumulasses de bênçãos e dilatasses os meus limites, se a tua mão fosse comigo, e não permitisses que eu fosse oprimido pela malícia!... E Deus concedeu-lhe o que ele pediu.

11Caleb, irmão de Sua, gerou Maír, que foi pai de Eston.

12Eston gerou Betrafa, Fess e Teina, pai dos habitantes da cidade de Naas. Estes são os povoadores de Reca.

13Filhos de Cenez: Otoniel e Saraia. Filhos de Otoniel: Hatat e Maonati.

14Maonati gerou Ofra, Saraia gerou Joab, pai dos habitantes do Vale dos Artífices, (assim chamado) porque ali habitavam os artífices.

15Os filhos de Caleb, filho de Jefone, foram: Hir, Ela e Naão. Filho de Ela: Cenez.

16Os filhos de Jeleleel, foram: Zif, Zifa, Tiria e Asrael.

17Os filhos de Ezra foram: Jeter, Mered, Efer e Jalon. A mulher de Mered (a egípcia) deu à lua Myriam, Sammai, e Jesba, pai dos habitantes de Estamo.

18(Outra) sua mulher, Odala, deu à luz Jared, pai de Gedor, e Heber, pai de Soco, e Icutiel, pai de Zanoe. Estes são os filhos de Betia, filha de Faraó, com a qual casou Mered.

19Os filhos de (sua) mulher Odala, irmã de Naão, pai de Ceila, foram: Garmi e Estamo, que era de Macati.

20Os filhos de Simão foram: Amnon, Binna, filho de Hanan, e Tilon. Os filhos de Jesi foram: Zoet e Benzoet.

21Os filhos de Sela, (terceiro) filho de Judá, foram: Her, pai de Leca, Laada, pai de Meresa, e as famílias da casa dos fabricantes de linho fino na casa do juramento,

22e Joaquim (cujo nome significa) o que fez parar o sol, e os habitantes de Cozeba (isto é) os homens da Mentira, e Joás e Saraf (isto é) o Afouto e o Ardente, que foram príncipes em Moab e Laem. Estas memórias são antigas.

23Estes são os oleiros que habitavam nas hortas e nos cercados, nas casas do rei: trabalhando para ele, ali moravam.

24Os filhos de Simeão foram: Namuel, Jamin, Jarib, Zara, Saul.

25Selum, seu filho, foi pai de Mabsão, o qual teve por filho a Masma.

26Filhos de Masma: Hamuel, de quem foi filho Zacur, do qual foi filho Semei.

27Semei teve dezasseis filhos e seis filhas, mas seus irmãos não tiveram muitos filhos, e toda a sua posteridade não pode igualar o número dos filhos de Judá.

28Habitaram em Bersabé, em Molada, em Hasarsual,

29em Bata, em Asom, em Tolad,

30em Batuel, em Horma, em Siceleg,

31em Betmarcabot, em Hasarsusim, em Betberal e em Saarim. Estas foram os suas cidades até ao reinado de Davide.

32(Tinham também): Etão, Aen, Remon, Toquen e Asan, cinco cidades,

33com todas as aldeias dos seus arredores, até Baal. Esta é a sua habitação e o seu registo genealógico.

34Mosabab, Jemlec, Josa, filho de Amasias,

35Joel, Jeú, filho de Josabia, filho de Saraia, filho de Asiel,

36Elioenai, Jacoba, Isuaia, Asaia, Adlel, Ismiel, Banaia,

37Ziza, filho de Sefei, filho de Alon, filho de Idaia, filho de Semri, filho de Samaia.

38Estes são os príncipes ilustres nas suas famílias, e multiplicaram-se em extremo as suas casas patriarcais.

39(Por isso) saíram a fim de ocupar Gadôr até no oriente do vale, em busca de pastos para os seus gados.

40Encontraram pastagens abundantes e muito excelentes, e uma terra espaçosíssima, tranquila e fértil, onde antes tinham habitado os descendentes de Cam.

41Estes pois, que acima nomeamos, vieram no tempo de Ezequias, rei de Judá; deitaram abaixo as suas tendas, mataram os habitantes que ali encontraram, destruindo-os (assim) até ao dia de hoje; habitaram em lugar deles, porque encontraram abundantíssimos pastos.

42Igualmente quinhentos homens dos filhos de Simeão passaram ao monte de Seir, tendo por chefes a Faltias, Naarias, Rafaias e Oziel, filhos de Jezl,

43e acabaram com os restos dos Amalecitas, que tinham podido salvar-se, ficando a habitar ali, em seu lugar, até ao dia de hoje.

4Phanuel autem pater Gedor, et Ezer pater Hosa: isti sunt filii Hur primogeniti Ephratha patris Bethlehem.

5Assur vero patri Thecuæ erant duæ uxores, Halaa et Naara.

6Peperit autem ei Naara, Oozam, et Hepher, et Themani, et Ahasthari: isti sunt filii Naara.

7Porro filii Halaa, Sereth, Isaar et Ethnan.

8Cos autem genuit Anob, et Soboba, et cognationem Aharehel filii Arum.

9Fuit autem Jabes inclytus præ fratribus suis, et mater ejus vocavit nomen illius Jabes, dicens: Quia peperi eum in dolore.

10Invocavit vero Jabes Deum Israël, dicens: Si benedicens benedixeris mihi, et dilataveris terminos meos, et fuerit manus tua mecum, et feceris me a malitia non opprimi. Et præstitit Deus quæ precatus est.

11Caleb autem frater Sua genuit Mahir, qui fuit pater Esthon.

12Porro Esthon genuit Bethrapha, et Phesse, et Tehinna patrem urbis Naas: hi sunt viri Recha.

13Filii autem Cenez, Othoniel, et Saraia. Porro filii Othoniel, Hathath, et Maonathi.

14Maonathi genuit Ophra, Saraia autem genuit Joab patrem Vallis artificum: ibi quippe artifices erant.

15Filii vero Caleb filii Jephone, Hir, et Ela, et Naham. Filii quoque Ela: Cenez.

16Filii quoque Jaleleel: Ziph, et Zipha, Thiria, et Asraël.

17Et filii Ezra, Jether, et Mered, et Epher, et Jalon, genuitque Mariam, et Sammai, et Jesba patrem Esthamo.

18Uxor quoque ejus Judaia, peperit Jared patrem Gedor, et Heber patrem Socho, et Icuthiel patrem Zanoë: hi autem filii Bethiæ filiæ Pharaonis, quam accepit Mered.

19Et filii uxoris Odaiæ sororis Naham patris Ceila, Garmi, et Esthamo, qui fuit de Machathi.

20Filii quoque Simon, Amnon, et Rinna filius Hanan, et Thilon. Et filii Jesi, Zoheth, et Benzoheth.

21Filii Sela, filii Juda: Her pater Lecha, et Laada pater Maresa, et cognationes domus operantium byssum in domo juramenti.

22Et qui stare fecit solem, virique Mendacii, et Securus, et Incendens, qui principes fuerunt in Moab, et qui reversi sunt in Lahem: hæc autem verba vetera.

23Hi sunt figuli habitantes in plantationibus et in sepibus, apud regem in operibus ejus: commoratique sunt ibi.

24Filii Simeon: Namuel et Jamin, Jarib, Zara, Saul.

25Sellum filius ejus, Mapsam filius ejus, Masma filius ejus.

26Filii Masma: Hamuel filius ejus, Zachur filius ejus, Semei filius ejus.

27Filii Semei sedecim, et filiæ sex: fratres autem ejus non habuerunt filios multos, et universa cognatio non potuit adæquare summam filiorum Juda.

28Habitaverunt autem in Bersabee, et Molada, et Hasarsuhal,

29et in Bala, et in Asom, et in Tholad,

30et in Bathuel, et in Horma, et in Siceleg,

31et in Bethmarchaboth, et in Hasarsusim, et in Bethberai, et in Saarim: hæ civitates eorum usque ad regem David.

32Villæ quoque eorum: Etam, et Aën, Remmon, et Thochen, et Asan, civitates quinque.

33Et universi viculi eorum per circuitum civitatum istarum usque ad Baal: hæc est habitatio eorum, et sedium distributio.

34Mosobab quoque et Jemlech, et Josa filius Amasiæ,

35et Joël, et Jehu filius Josabiæ filii Saraiæ filii Asiel,

36et Elioënai, et Jacoba, et Isuhaia, et Asaia, et Adiel, et Ismiel, et Banaia,

37Ziza quoque filius Sephei filii Allon filii Idaia filii Semri filii Samaia.

38Isti sunt nominati principes in cognationibus suis, et in domo affinitatum suarum multiplicati sunt vehementer.

39Et profecti sunt ut ingrederentur in Gador usque ad orientem vallis, et ut quærerent pascua gregibus suis.

40Inveneruntque pascuas uberes, et valde bonas, et terram latissimam et quietam et fertilem, in qua ante habitaverant de stirpe Cham.

41Hi ergo venerunt, quos supra descripsimus nominatim, in diebus Ezechiæ regis Juda: et percusserunt tabernacula eorum, et habitatores qui inventi fuerant ibi, et deleverunt eos usque in præsentem diem: habitaveruntque pro eis, quoniam uberrimas pascuas ibidem repererunt.

42De filiis quoque Simeon abierunt in montem Seir viri quingenti, habentes principes Phalthiam et Naariam et Raphaiam et Oziel filios Jesi:

43et percusserunt reliquias, quæ evadere potuerant, Amalecitarum, et habitaverunt ibi pro eis usque ad diem hanc.

9And Jabes was more honourable than any of his brethren, and his mother called his name Jabes, saying: Because I bore him with sorrow.

10And Jabes called upon the God of Israel, saying: If blessing thou wilt bless me, and wilt enlarge my borders, and thy hand be with me, and thou save me from being oppressed by evil. And God granted him the things he prayed for.

11And Caleb the brother of Sua beget Mahir, who was the father of Esthon.

12And Esthon beget Bethrapha, and Phesse, and Tehinna father of the city of Naas: these are the men of Recha.

13And the sons of Cenez were Othoniel, and Saraia. And the sons of Othoniel, Hathath, and Maonathi.

14Maonathi beget Ophra, and Saraia begot Joab the father of the Valley of artificers: for artificers were there.

15And the sons of Caleb the son of Jephone, were Hir, and Ela, and Naham. And the sons of Ela: Cenez.

16The sons also of Jaleleel: Ziph, and Zipha, Thiria, and Asrael.

17And the sons of Esra, Jether, and Mered, and Epher, and Jalon, and he beget Mariam, and Sammai, and Jesba the father of Esthamo.

18And his wife Judaia, bore Jared the father of Gedor, and Heber the father of Socho, and Icuthiel the father of Zanoe. And these are the sons of Bethia the daughter of Pharao, whom Mered took to wife.

19And the sons of his wife Odaia the sister of Naham the father of Celia, Garmi, and Esthamo, who was of Machathi.

20The sons also of Simon, Amnon, and Rinna the son of Hanan, and Thilon. And the sons of Jesi Zoheth, and Benzoheth.

21The sons of Sela the son of Juda: Her the father of Lecha, and Laada the father of Maresa, and the families of the house of them that wrought fine linen in the House of oath.

22And he that made the sun to stand, and the men of Lying, and Secure, and Burning, who were princes in Moab, and who returned into Lahem. Now these are things of old.

23These are the potters, and they dwelt in Plantations, and Hedges, with the king for his works, and they abode there.

24The sons of Simeon: Namuel, and Jamin, Jarib, Zara, Saul:

25Sellum his son, Mapsam his son, Masma his son.

26The sons of Masma: Hamuel his son, Zachur his son, Semei his son.

27The sons of Semei were sixteen, and six daughters: but his brethren had not many sons, and the whole kindred could not reach to the sum of the children of Juda.

28And they dwelt in Bersabee, and Molada, and Hasarsuhal,

29And in Bala, and in Asom, and in Tholad,

30And in Bathuel, and in Horma, and in Siceleg,

31And in Bethmarchaboth, and in Hasarsusim, and in Bethberai, and in Saarim. These were their cities unto the reign of David.

32Their towns also were Etam, and Aen, Remmon, and Thochen, and Asan, five cities.

33And all their villages round about these cities as far as Baal. This was their habitation, and the distribution of their dwellings.

34And Mosabab and Jemlech, and Josa, the son of Amasias,

35And Joel, and Jehu the son of Josabia the son of Saraia, the son of Asiel,

36And Elioenai, and Jacoba, and Isuhaia, and Asaia, and Adiel, and Ismiel, and Banaia,

37Ziza also the son of Sephei the son of Allon the son of Idaia the son of Semri the son of Samaia.

38These were named princes in their kindreds, and in the houses of their families were multiplied exceedingly.

39And they went forth to enter into Gador as far as to the east side of the valley, to seek pastures for their flocks.

40And they found fat pastures, and very good, and a country spacious, and quiet, and fruitful, in which some of the race of Cham had dwelt before.

41And these whose names are written above, came in the days of Ezechias king of Juda: and they beat down their tents, and slew the inhabitants that were found there, and utterly destroyed them unto this day: and they dwelt in their place, because they found there fat pastures.

42Some also of the children of Simeon, five hundred men, went into mount Seir, having for their captains Phaltias and Naaria and Raphaia and Oziel the sons of Jesi:

43And they slew the remnant of the Amalecites, who had been able to escape, and they dwelt there in their stead unto this day.
