1Davidde adunque, e i capi della moltitudine trascelsero per ministri i figliuoli di Asaph, e di Heman, e d'Idithun: perchè cantassero le lodi di Dio al suono delle cetre, de' salterj, e de' cimbali, servendo in numero conveniente all'ufficio, per cui erano destinati.

2De' figliuoli di Asaph: Zachur, e Giuseppe, e Nathania, e Asarela figliuoli di Asaph: sotto la direzione di Asaph, il quale cantava presso del re.

3I figliuoli poi di Idithun, sei: Idithun, Godolia, Sori, Jeseia, e Hasabia, e Mathathia sotto la direzione del padre loro Idithun, il quale al suon della cetra cantava innanzi a quelli, che celebravano, e laudavano il Signore.

4V'era anche Heman: i figliuoli di Heman furono, Bocciau, Mathaniau, Oziel, Subuel, e Jerimoth, Hanania, Hanani, Eliatha, Geddelthi, e Rom-memthiezer, e Jesbacassa, Mellothi, Othir, Mahazioth.

5Tutti questi figliuoli di Heman (Veggente di David per far parole delle cose di Dio) lo rendevano glorioso: Dio diede ad Heman quattordici figliuoli, e tre figlie.

6Tutti quanti eran distribuiti sotto la direzione de' padri loro, cioè di Asaph, e d'Idithun, e di Heman per cantare nel tempio del Signore sui cimbali, e sui salterj, e sulle cetre, per adempire gli uffizj della casa del Signore presso del re.

7E il numero di questi insieme co'loro fratelli, che erano tutti dotti, e insegnavano a cantare le canzoni del Signore, fu di dugento ottantotto.

8E tutti egualmente tirarono a sorte classe per classe, tanto maggiori, che minori, maestri, e discepoli.

9E il primo a uscire a sorte fu Giuseppe, che era figliuolo di Asaph. Il secondo uscì Godolia, egli, e i suoi figliuoli, e fratelli in numero di dodici.

10Il terzo Zachur co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

11Il quarto Isari co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

12Il quinto Nathania co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

13Il sesto Bocciau co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

14Il settimo Izreela co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

15L'ottavo Jesaia co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

16Il nono Mathania co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

17Il decimo Semeia co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

18L'undecimo Azareel co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

19Il dodicesimo Hasabia co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

20Il tredicesimo Subael co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

21Il quattordicesimo Mathathia co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

22Il quindicesimo Jerimoth co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

23Il sedicesimo Hanania co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

24Il diciassettesimo Jesbacassa co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

25Il diciottesimo Hanani co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

26Il diciannovesimo Mellothi co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

27Il ventesimo Eliatha co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

28Il ventunesimo Othir co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

29Il ventesimo secondo Geddelthi co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

30Il ventesimo terzo Mahazioth co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

31Il ventesimo quarto Romemthiezer co' suoi figliuoli, e fratelli dodici.

1Igitur David et magistratus exercitus segregaverunt in ministerium filios Asaph, et Heman, et Idithun, qui prophetarent in citharis, et psalteriis, et cymbalis secundum numerum suum, dedicato sibi officio servientes.

2De filiis Asaph: Zachur, et Joseph, et Nathania, et Asarela, filii Asaph: sub manu Asaph prophetantis juxta regem.

3Porro Idithun: filii Idithun, Godolias, Sori, Jeseias, et Hasabias, et Mathathias, sex, sub manu patris sui Idithun, qui in cithara prophetabat super confitentes et laudantes Dominum.

4Heman quoque: filii Heman, Bocciau, Mathaniau, Oziel, Subuel, et Jerimoth, Hananias, Hanani, Eliatha, Geddelthi, et Romemthiezer, et Jesbacassa, Mellothi, Othir, Mahazioth:

5omnes isti filii Heman videntis regis in sermonibus Dei, ut exaltaret cornu: deditque Deus Heman filios quatuordecim, et filias tres.

6Universi sub manu patris sui ad cantandum in templo Domini distributi erant, in cymbalis, et psalteriis, et citharis, in ministeria domus Domini juxta regem: Asaph videlicet, et Idithun, et Heman.

7Fuit autem numerus eorum cum fratribus suis, qui erudiebant canticum Domini, cuncti doctores, ducenti octoginta octo.

8Miseruntque sortes per vices suas, ex æquo tam major quam minor, doctus pariter et indoctus.

9Egressaque est sors prima Joseph, qui erat de Asaph. Secunda Godoliæ, ipsi et filiis ejus, et fratribus ejus duodecim.

10Tertia Zachur, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

11Quarta Isari, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

12Quinta Nathaniæ, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

13Sexta Bocciau, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

14Septima Isreela, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

15Octava Jesaiæ, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

16Nona Mathaniæ, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

17Decima Semeiæ, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

18Undecima Azareel, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

19Duodecima Hasabiæ, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

20Tertiadecima Subaël, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

21Quartadecima Mathathiæ, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

22Quintadecima Jerimoth, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

23Sextadecima Hananiæ, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

24Septimadecima Jesbacassæ, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

25Octavadecima Hanani, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

26Nonadecima Mellothi, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

27Vigesima Eliatha, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

28Vigesima prima Othir, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

29Vigesima secunda Geddelthi, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

30Vigesima tertia Mahazioth, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

31Vigesima quarta Romemthiezer, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim.

1Moreover David and the chief. officers of the army separated for the ministry the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Idithun: to prophesy with harps, and with psalteries, and with cymbals according to their number serving in their appointed office.

2Of the sons of Asaph: Zacchur, and Joseph, and Nathania, and Asarela, sons of Asaph: under the hand of Asaph prophesying near the king.

3And of Idithun: the sons of Idithun, Godolias, Serf, Jeseias, and Hasabias, and Mathathias, six, under the hand of their father Idithun, who prophesied with a harp to give thanks and to praise the Lord.

4Of Heman also: the sons of Heman, Bocciau, Mathaniau, Oziel, Subuel, and Jerimoth, Hananias, Hanani, Eliatha, Geddelthi, and Romemthiezer, and Jesbacassa, Mellothi, Othir, Mahazioth:

5All these were the sons of Heman the seer of the king in the words of God, to lift up the horn: and God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

6All these under their father’s hand were distributed to sing in the temple of the Lord, with cymbals, and psalteries and harps, for the service of the house of the Lord near the king: to wit, Asaph, and Idithun, and Heman.

7And the number of them with their brethren, that taught the song of the Lord, all the teachers, were two hundred and eighty-eight,

8And they cast lots by their courses, the elder equally with the younger, the learned and the unlearned together.

9And the first lot came forth to Joseph, who was of Asaph. The second to Godolias, to him and his sons, and his brethren twelve.

10The third to Zachur, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

11The fourth to Isari, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

12The fifth to Nathania, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

13The sixth to Bocciau, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

14The seventh to Isreela, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

15The eighth to Jesaia, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

16The ninth to Mathanaias, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

17The tenth to Semeias, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

18The eleventh to Azareel, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

19The twelfth to Hasabia, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

20The thirteenth to Subael, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

21The fourteenth to Mathathias, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

22The fifteenth to Jerimoth, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

23The sixteenth to Hananias, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

24The seventeenth to Jesbacassa, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

25The eighteenth to Hanani, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

26The nineteenth to Mellothi, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

27The twentieth to Eliatha, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

28The one and twentieth to Othir, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

29The two and twentieth to Geddelthi, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

30The three and twentieth to Mahazioth, to his sons and his brethren twelve.

31The four and twentieth to Romemthiezer, to his sons and his brethren twelve.
